Counselors

and in the skills of the activities
taught at camp. We follow state
guidelines on the ratio of instructors to
campers with 1 to 5 for those under 6
and 1 to 10 for those ages 6-14.
Many of our counselors are former
YWCA campers here and even more
have taken part in our CIT program. This camp complies with all the regulations of the Massachusetts Department
of Public Health and is licensed
by the Marshfield Board of Health.
Most counselors have CPR and First
Aid training.
Counselor In Training Program
For youth who will be at least 13 by June 30, 2008, the YWCA offers a counselor in training (CIT) program. CIT 1 is a 3 week program. The first week (June 30 -July 3) is spent in training with Betsy Budd, assistant director of the camp. Two more weeks are spent actually working in groups with campers and counselors. These two weeks are scheduled individually with each CIT. The program includes reviewing skills for activities used at camp, training in how to teach these skills, leadership development emphasizing respect for others, encouraging development of self-esteem and positive reinforcement techniques. There is also training in safety and techniques for dealing with and resolving conflict. To register fill out the enclosed camp registration form and mail to the YWCA with a check for $200; an additional form asking for more information will be sent with confirmation letter. CIT TWO is open by invitation to those who successfully completed CIT ONE or are eligible (15 years old) to be a junior counselor but have not completed a counselor in training program here or elsewhere.
Location
The YWCA is in the northeast section
of Marshfield near Humarock.
We are on 10 acres on the North
River marsh. If there is a breeze
anywhere we have it! Our facilities
include a converted barn with plenty
of space for indoor activities.
Camperships
The YWCA, with the help of local
churches, PTOs and service organizations, awards a free week of camp to at least 2 campers each week and WELCOMES DONATIONS to increase the number of camperships
we award.

Volunteer Talents
Use the registration card to indicate
your willingness to share skills and
knowledge with the camp informally.
We are particularly interested in instruction in tennis, drama, nature, music and cooking.

Work Exchange
Kitchen Mom or Dad: A free week of camp is available in exchange for one weeks work. Responsibilities are to supervise and clean the kitchen 2 hours a day and to do grocery shopping usually once or twice during the week. Arts and Crafts Parent receives $175 or 3 weeks of camp credit in exchange for teaching and coordinating the arts and crafts activities for one week of camp. Hours are approximately 8:45 am to 1:30 pm. Work exchanges are also available for talent specialists willing to spend 10 - 15 hours per week working with campers.

Carpools
The YWCA does not provide transportation for campers. Names and
addresses of campers are available in the office at the YWCA to assist parents in organizing carpools.
